The New Samsung Spica i5700 By Hans Erickson in Mobile Development, Mobile Development News

Samsung has announced the newest member to the Android family this past weekend.  Introducing the Spica i5700:

The Spica sports a zippy 800MHz CPU,  has a 3.2-inch HVGA (320 x 480 pixel) TFT display, a 3MP camera, and 180Mb of internal memory with microSDHC card slot for up to 32Gb of storage.

Utilizing version 1.5 of the Android OS (Cupcake), the Spica will support DivX for video playback, an exciting addition given that others must convert files to a playable format for their phone.

The Galaxy Spica is already available in Europe and Russia, and is expected to launch in Africa and the Middle East soon.  Notably absent is the US.  The lack of North American 3G bands would seem to indicate that Samsung doesn’t intend on releasing the Spica in the US.  Releasing a phone in our dominantly 3G world with only support for the slower EDGE and GSM would be a pretty daft move.  Either way, from the video below, the Spica looks to be a nice addition to the ever growing Android family:
