4G Samsung Galaxy S Pro specs surface, HTC cries a little.

Samsung Galaxy S ProThe title of “hottest Android handset right now” has been passed around a fair bit of late, from the Nexus One, to the Desire, to the Incredible, to the Evo, to the Galaxy S, and beyond. The last 6-12 months has been like a game of digital hot potato.

Next in line for this starchy title? The Galaxy S Pro.

Rumours of a keyboard totin’ variant of Samsung’s 1GHz, Super-AMOLED gem have been passed around since at least March, but details are now becoming much more concrete.

Android Central have some managed to dig up some info on the forthcoming full-QWERTY device, and the details a spud-o-licious (to stretch the analogy to its very limits).

Present are the same impressive specs that we know and lust from the Galaxy S: namely Samsung’s (reportedly superior than Snapdragon) 1GHz ARM Cortex A8, 512MB RAM, 5MP/720P Camera, VGA front-facing camera, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, and — of course — that beautiful 4 inch Super-AMOLED screen.

But, there are two major differences: 1) the obvious full-QWERTY keyboard, and 2) Sprint 4G support.

That’s right, this baby comes packin’ WiMax, and is destined for Sprint’s next-gen network. Aw, sorry EVO, that crown looks to be in contention.

The device will be based on Android 2.1 (no word yet on if that will be bumped to 2.2/Froyo before launch), with Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 custom skin. It will be able to handle H264 as well as DivX.

The pre-release version in the hands-on also had 8GB of ROM, which will probably be turned into on-board storage, à la the Droid Incredible. The Galaxy S comes with 8 or 16GB on-board storage, so you can probably expect 16GB to be available on this device, too.

That’s all the details we have at the moment, but you can bet that with a spec sheet this impressive, we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any more info and let you know about it as fast as we can.
