How To Root Motorola Droid (Android 2.0.1)

TEXT TUTORIAL: fbgstudios.com This tutorial works on both the original Android 2.0 Rom which ships with Droid, and the latest Android 2.0.1 OTA (over the air) software update which is the most recent release as of December 11th, 2009. Root access will enable you to mod the phones firmware to whatever you want to have on your phone like themes, apps and custom ROMS and uis just like you do on the jailbroken G1, iphone, etc.

calm down……u can get the update early only by a zip file…. but u have to have a rooted driod:)

Ok dude, awesome video, very clear and easy to follow. Hears my only problem and it’s not with u. Everything u said I did and it was working fine until it came time for the actual update.zip file to work. I’ve gone to many different sites getting droid_root.zip to droid-superuser.zip and renaming them all to update zip. Nothing has worked yet. I’ve even tried going deep in the different folders and pulling the very files i need. Still nothing. Do u kno where I can find a working file?
whut does rooting your droid do?
@cherrio0671 Yes. By rebooting the droid without holding X and doing this process it will be back to the way it was. There are apps you can download like overclock app and all that you can have a choice to make it where when you reboot your droid it will automatically do this for you so you dont have to hold x and all that again.
@jessica4600 Hold the camera button all the way down and hold the volume + button until it gets to the option. It might take a little.

@busyguy1994 This is a loaded statment becasue you have to Jailbreak your lame iPhone to do things that STOCK Android devices can do.
DO NOT ROOT!!!!!!!!!!!! Android devs said that they plan on releasing android 2.1 on the moto droid in a few days. wait and see first if this is true. they say that they will make it open source so anybody can download it, but i do not know if it will be an over the air update through verizon or what ever service you have or just a program for online use. anyway 2.1 has live wallpers and other cool shit. look at vids of the nexus one to see what i mean, it has android 2.1…

what the hell is an “ADB” shell?
what does this do for your phone? i jailbroke my ipod and i can clearly see what it does and such but with the droid, you can have emulators, roms, backgrounds, themes, and you can just download all the paid apps on websites… please respond.
