This year has seen some properly awesome smartphones arrive on shelves, and now it’s time for the best of the best. Let’s have a look at three of the contenders for best phone of this year.
Nokia N900
We begin by acknowledging the most powerful smartphone in the Nokia catalogue. Their latest smartphone is the first of its kind; it is the first mobile phone ever to include the open-source Maemo operating system (heretofore seen in Nokia’s internet tablet range). Give a warm welcome to the Nokia N900. That Maemo OS gives the Nokia N900 a touch friendly interface, and on top of that, the handset has got a built in QWERTY thumbboard, so it has more methods of interacting with the phone than ever before. It isn’t only about the UI, though, because the Nokia N900 is crammed with top-end features. A 5 megapixel camera makes for beautiful photos, the multimedia player is stunning, and best of all, the Nokia N900 has a web browser, based on the world famous Firefox browser, which even supports Flash.
Palm Pre
On the other hand, if you’re talking about phone interfaces, one phone canes both of the other mobile phones in this list, without a doubt: the groundbreaking Palm Pre. This is simply because the Palm Pre is built on an entirely bespoke UI known as WebOS, which is definitely the slickest, most intuitive operating system which has ever been made. As well as simple gesture controls and finger sweeps for EVERY interaction with the phone, the Palm Pre also includes tight integration between its different apps. Book a movie ticket on one app, and the Palm Pre instantly updates your calendar with the show time. Multitask loads of powerful apps, and be amazed as you watch the Palm Pre run without any effort or lag. In the world of the user interface, basically, the Palm Pre just cannot be beaten!
HTC HD2
So, there’s the Nokia N900 with that Maemo interface, and then there’s the Palm Pre, which features WebOS. And finally you have the HTC HD2; it holds the record for the biggest screen found on any mobile phone. At a whopping 4.3 inches, it is simply gargantuan, and the WVGA, 800×480 resolution makes it genuinely easy to interact with things like scrollbars in menus. However, the HTC HD2 actually does a very good job of making it so you do not have to drill down into the normal Windows menus very often, as on top of the operating system, the UI is HTC’s brilliant Sense UI, where every interaction happens by way of a range of finger swipes and sweeping motions. It is truly intuitive, and it (along with the lightning fast 1GHz Snapdragon CPU) is what makes the HTC HD2 such an unmitigated joy to use. Of course, it’s not all about being raw processing power, a phone needs to have compelling features and the HTC HD2 has them in spades, from the 5 megapixel camera, through GPS, to incredibly fast HSDPA internet access (not to mention the superb Opera Mobile web browser), which is why many people see it as the best mobile phone EVER.

Looks like the consensus is about the same across the board. Apple fixed what it needed to fix (for the most part) with the iPhone 3G S (and the 3. 0 OS update) yet.. the iPhone 3G S isn’ t the compelling upgrade that the 3G was. Yup.. you can be sure …
Luxury Handsets…
I’d love a luxury mobile phone like the iPhone, covered in diamonds. Does anybody know a good, reliable site, as it’s a lot of money to splash out with a company you don’t know. I found My Telecoms who are partnered with Continental Mobiles, and the…
