The Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 is the newest device in the company’s Xperia line-up but unlike the previous models, this version doesn’t sport a slider form factor and it doesn’t run on Windows Mobile.  The Xperia X3 is a candybar touchscreen mobile running on Android OS.  Sony Ericsson chose to incorporate their own brand of user interface onto the Xperia X3 and the performance of the UI is so seamless, it may even rival that of the iPhone’s.

Navigating through the phone and launching applications go about in a smooth, continuous slide that it is truly a breeze to operate.  There are application widgets that make for easy access and a rather fun display plus there are 3D views of content such as playlist and contacts so that not only is the experience hassle-free, it is also quite pleasurable.

Web browsing over the Xperia X3 is a pleasant experience as the phone is fully supported by the HSDPA and HSUPA networks as well as WiFi connectivity.  Download speeds over HSDPA is a reported 10Mbps so surfing and downloading should be a trouble-free affair.

The camera of the X3 is without a doubt one of the principal features of the phone.  It is an 8 megapixel snapper with inventive components such as autofocus, face detection, smile shutter, image stabilization and eight times digital zoom.  Taking pictures with the X3 should provide users with hours of amusement.  Entertainment is not only provided by the camera.  You will also find a music and video player on the X3 as well as an FM radio.  Video playback for MPEG4 files is possible on the device while audio formats MP3, AAC, AAC+, WAV and WMV can be played on the music player.

All of these elements work at their best owing to the processor that this device comes with. Sony Ericsson put in a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor so that performance is at its finest. Android OS is the platform that runs this mobile which adds to the efficiency of the phone. No word has been released yet on third party application support but should this be an element of the X3, we can expect to enjoy Google applications on this unit, perhaps Gmail, Google Maps, Google Search and YouTube.

Other standard features complete the line-up of components for the X3 and whilst these are typical applications, this doesn’t discount the importance of these tools.  The Xperia X3 comes with PIM tools such as a calendar, notes, to-do list and calculator to mention a few.
