Small and Powerful: the Palm Pixi By admin in Mobile Development News

Small phones are not synonymous with impressive hardware, the Palm Pixi, however, is a different story. This lightweight tiny mobile phone is slim, light and heavily packed with features that would make other smart phone cry. Palm has shown excellent balance in terms of mobile phone design and hardware. Their vision for the Pixi seems to be that of a mobile smart phone that specializes in sending messages. The decision to make it small is a wise move because it is unobtrusive to have and at the same time accessibly present to be used when needed. The Pixi is very slim allowing it to fit into a pocket or inside a bag easily.

Pre Release Information

The Pixi will be launched this coming December, and Palm has made several of the specifications known. Considering that this device is a smart phone, it comes as to no surprise that the Pixi will have 2G and 3G capabilities. It supports GPRS, EDGE and HSDPA 3G technology as well. For media playback, it can handle both video and music files (it also has a 3.5mm audio jack).

Other features include GPS and Bluetooth. Some sources also state that the Palm Pixi has an accelerometer sensor, but we do not really know why you would be using this mobile phone sideways. One really impressive item to note is the internal memory of the Pixi. This tiny little smart phone has 8GB of internal storage. Most smart phones are lucky to have 2 to 4GB of internal storage. Considering that the Pixi does not have room for an SD card slot, the large internal memory certainly helps.

Pixi Dimensions

The Pixi is small like its namesake. At 111 x 55 x 10.9 inches it is one of the smallest smart phones with this much hardware capabilities. It weighs in at 99 grams so carrying this mobile phone is very, very easy. If you have been waiting for a small phone with great features and capabilities, then the Pixi is definitely the way to go.

Past the Palm Pre

If you have tried using the Palm Pre, you will be happy to know that the Pixi is a vast improvement over the previous Palm mobile phone. Not to mention that the Pixi also has a better processor. Specs wise, the Pixi mirrors the Pre in many aspects, such as internal memory, audio capabilities and both use the Palm WebOS. If you are currently using the Palm Pre and have been hoping for an upgrade, then the Pixi is the phone you have been waiting for.
